A multimeter is the preferred tool for testing earthing products due to its precision and versatility. This device offers several advantages:
1. Set the earth check multimeter to measure AC voltage
2. Connect the black probe to the ground port of an electrical outlet
3. Touch the red probe to your skin or grounding product
4. A reading below 2.0V indicates effective grounding

Using a digital multimeter for earthing testing, such as an earth check multimeter or a grounding multimeter, is the most effective way to evaluate grounding products. It provides accurate readings of the voltage in your body and shows how much voltage decreases when you’re in contact with the grounding products.
A key advantage of a digital earthing multimeter is its user-friendly design, making it accessible for anyone to use.
To check if your grounding product is effective, hold the red pin of your earthing multimeter in one hand and touch any part of your grounding product with the other.
You should see the voltage decrease immediately, indicating that the grounding product is working. If you then touch your earthing sheet or mat with the opposite hand, the voltage should drop again, confirming that you've successfully grounded yourself.
When using a digital grounding multimeter, the body’s voltage can fluctuate based on electrical exposure. For example, touching a plugged-in laptop may cause a noticeable spike.
Different products will yield varying readings, with most bedrooms showing around 5-10 volts before grounding.
You typically won’t see the voltage in a grounding multimeter drop to zero, as the body produces a small electrical current.
A reading of 0.50 volts or lower indicates effective grounding.
For the best accuracy, lie down on your grounding sheet or grounding products, as using just your hand covers only a limited area.
